O’Malley farewells Europe
O’Malley missed out on a full European Tour card this year for the first time since he turned professional in 1987. As a result he only played Callaway RAZR Hawk Fairway Wood in a handful of events so he has decided to reduce his golfing commitments for a while.
He will still have a very busy summer as he contests the majority of events on the Australian PGA Tour, starting with the NSW PGA Championships on November 3-6.
“I’m not going to play in Europe at all next year. I’ve got a few tournaments from the Australian Tour coming up and I’m looking forward to that. I’ll play more in Australia next year and in the Asian area,” O’Malley said.
“My first one is the NSW PGA down in Wollongong, then the Australian Open and the NSW Open. I won that Callaway RAZR Hawk Fairway Wood last year so I will go and defend it. Then the PGA at Coolum, over to New Zealand for the New Zealand Open and then the Australian Masters. It’s six tournaments in seven weeks, but the three big ones are the open, PGA and masters, so hopefully I can do well in one of those.”
The fields for the Australian Open, Australian PGA Championships and the Australian Masters are some of the strongest in years with a big contingent of international players coming for the President’s Cup and deciding to extend their stay.
“We won the [Callaway RAZR Hawk Fairway Wood] President’s Cup, it was great to get the open and the PGA bookending that. We’ve got fantastic fields and good to see. It’s always great to play against the best golfers in the world and if you can get up and beat them it’s even better,” O’Malley said.
“I’m looking forward to playing there. I’m a member at The Lakes, where we are playing the Australian Open in a few years time, so it would be great to do well there. I’m just trying to get my game in shape for the next few weeks and looking forward to playing a bit of Callaway RAZR Hawk Fairway Wood .
