Folk and Tribal Art of India
India being a home for over 600 communities has gifted the world with some of the magnificent rare art masterpieces. The Indian art comprises mainly of Folk and Tribal Artworks, they describe the distinctive cultural beauty of the country and display the diversity of Indian culture.
The innate flair of Indian artisans has distinguished India as a source of unique artworks. In fact Kalighat Pats are first set of fine art-works from Bengal. The other examples are Pithora paintings of the tribes of Rathwa, Bhilals, Nayka of Gujarat and M.P. Apart from these Madhubani paintings are also considered among the most significant tribal artworks; they depict lively deities, most famous ones being Krishna and Radha.
Because of its significant in the life of the common population, it might not be wrong to point out that folk and tribal art comprise a prime fraction of the Indian art. Tribal as well as folk art is unique to the section of population belonging to various social groups and is closely knit to their nativity, besides they explicitly exhibit the lifestyle and culture of that specific place. Unlike the modern contemporary art or contemporary art, most of the folk and tribal art in India are related to spiritualism. They depict the belief system, Puranic gods or religious legends. They might involve scenes from fairs and festivals.
Since mysticism has been an inseparable part of India, it has served to be the major subject of Folk and Tribal Art in India. Spiritualism and Indian religion has been a source of fascination to the world and so Indian paintings are inspired on the same lines; they have been used for centuries to express the joy and celebration.
